Welcome to Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit, which means City of angels, great city of immortals, magnificent city of the nine gems, seat of the king, city of royal palaces, home of gods incarnate, erected by Visyakarman at Indra’s behest. Well, to make it easy, local usually uses Krung Thep as Bangkok name.
Yepp, this country is my third stop for my first small South East Asian tour. I arrived at a district where Khao Sarn road lies at 8 PM. The minibus dropped the last passengers (me and some Philippines girls) not really far from the main area. I stayed at Rambuttri road near to Khao Sarn road After checked in at the hotel in Rambuttri road–near Khao Sarn road–and take a few minutes rest, I got out of the hotel and walked to Khao Sarn road.
Khao Sarn road really reminds me of Bangla road in Phuket. The crowd of tourists passing by, the music is beating in some night pubs, variant food from common to extreme one sold by the street vendors, and don’t forget also the souvenir shops can easily be found here. After trying some local snacks like sausages and octopus BBQ, I took a rest a while at a cafe and enjoyed my first beer in Bangkok.
One scorpion and a bag of crickets, take away, please…
Khao Sarn road is well known as the backpacker’s melting pot. Besides pub and some stuffs I mention before, we can find budget stays around the road. Well, which backpacker who will reject cheapy stay, cheapy foods and cheapy beers? Actually i want to stay there, but considering that area might be so noisy every night, so I prefer to stay at Rambuttri which Tripadvisor says a lot chiller and tranquil.
In Khao Sarn road, the crazy party starts at midnight, where the music is played louder and every body are spreading and dancing on the street. Tables aligned sometimes used as a stage for some people who dance. With buckets of alcoholic beverage and some bottles of beers on their hands, they shook their body enjoying the beat. Once, i ever saw also, street dancers who performed their ability in some part of the road.
Khao Sarn road at day is not really different with the night, the crowds are still there, although not as much as in the evening because the road is opened for vehicle from 2Am til 4 PM. For me personally, I never get bored to hang out at Khao Sarn road, both day and night, just for sightseeing or hunting culinary. There are always interesting things to see there although you don’t buy any.
