Tips Ngegembel di Eropa bareng Keluarga

Ngetrip bareng keluarga terkadang membutuhkan kinerja ekstra.

How to Ask Direction?

Getting lost when traveling is somewhat humane. Sometimes the map you got from the airport or guide book you bought still couldn’t lead you to the place you’re onto. You might want to ask people around, but you’re too afraid of being scammed or posing language barrier that would lose your trip mood. You might remember how someone cast you out even when you’re about to say “excuse me?” Or you still remember how a stranger offered you a ride and ask for bunch of money when arrived? Or you got to nowhere after following a false direction by somebody? What’s wrong with people? Are they allergic to strangers? Have the world run out of good man? Or maybe the asking technique should be revised? Here I’d like to share some tips based on my experience when getting lost and trying to ask the local. Well, it works on me at least, and hopefully it would work on you too 1. Write the name of the place or the address in local alphabets Sometimes writing them …

Visit China and Conquer Its Language Barrier

Next June I and family will visit Hainan, China, and that still frustrates me a little, although I’ve been to the country for several time. Why is that? Well, as you-who once visit the country–know, Chinese rarely speaks English. So much experience I had when few years ago visiting other cities in China, regarding to this language barrier thing. I remember how I got confused when  checked in a hotel in Shenzhen which receptionist doesn’t speak English, or when I got lost to no where in Taipo District, HK, or when I wanted to order meals in a restaurant in Hangzhou, when I wanted to buy something and bargain in Beijing etc. Not only the people, some signs found on the street or menu a the restaurant use Chinese alphabets–and that drives me crazy! The locals are hard to understand our Chinese accent when asking something. And the most common scene happens when you start the words “excuse me?”, they will show their fear face, wave the hand as refusal sign and leave us by …

How to Pick Your Hotel/ Hostel

A little tips for you before considering where to stay when traveling. Hope this helps you to pic your stay wisely: 1. See the Location Technology provides us with what we call as Google Map, Google Earth and even GPS if you are too lazy to read a map. Find out and make sure that the place fits you, whether you want to stay near the melting pot or night life like Khaosarn road in Bangkok, shopping centers like Tsim Sha Tsui in Hongkong, tourism sites like Poppies lane in Kuta Bali, or you want to self-alienate somewhere tranquil like in some private islands. 2. Consider whether the Facility and the Location are worth the Price You Pay It’s very important to let you have the good price. The normal condition is, some hotel/ hostel which location is far from downtown or crowd center or tourism sites usually offer cheaper rate even for deluxe room with fancy facilities. While a strategic hotel/ hostel will set a higher rate for a standard room. And to be …

How to Avoid Scammer in Less than a Minute

Tired of being a dumb innocent traveler who always get scammed? Worry too much about what to do in a new destination? These are some tips you might want to try… 1. Play “I am a pauper, don’t expect too much from me” Scammer loves money. So, the way to avoid them is acting as if you have less money. Instead of wearing your Armani outfit, or Gabbana sunglasses, why don’t you wear cheapy fake Quicksilver tees or Gucci bag China? Slippers won’t look promising, rather than heels. 2. Act as if you know everything Scammers can smell your “I am an innocent foreigner” attitude. This will be a good bait for inviting them and offering you trips, hostels, vehicle rentals and whatever and whatsoever. Do a relaxed gesture, tilt your head, don’t show your confused face as if you are lost somewhere.  3. Say NO with a cold blooded killer’s smile Scammer sells, offers, persuades, pushes and even threats the tourists. Some is well mannered and will not push you too much, but some …

It’s time for Tetris Packing!!

Packing always becomes something trivial for me. I  am kinda light traveler who never bring too much stuffs but primary needs. But sometimes, I can’t deny that when the time is near, every thing suddenly seems necessary and important. As a result, I get my backpack fully loaded with less space remained. Along with me is my 35 liters backpack. It means that I really have to consider two essential thing, either I reduce the goodies, or I take a little time to think of a strategy to maximize every tiny space and put all stuffs in a smart order. Too bad, I am not a boyscout role model or mount trekker, so I didn’t learn how to pack properly. At the first time, I usually got confused when I saw the limited space in the backpack and bunch of “trash” that I’m going to bring on the trip. Ok, I am quite confident that I can put them all together inside the backpack. I can force all the overflow stuffs to get in. I …
